It’s not easy to make steak at home. Not many people try it and when they do, it’s often a laborious undertaking. With Brandie’s Crock Pot Cubed Steak with Gravy recipe, however, You only need to be hands on for less than 15 minutes, all thanks to the power of the slow cooker.
As Brandie wrote on her blog, The Country Cook, “[My slow cooker] really is one of my most favorite kitchen appliances. … It is the busy parent, busy worker, and beginner cook’s best friend. It can take a rather tough cut of meat, like this cubed steak here, and turn it into tenderness on a plate.” Don’t even get her started on the gravy.
Here’s how you can make this incredible recipe at home.
In a 6-quart slow cooker, combine ½ cup water, 1 packet of au jus gravy mix, 1 can of cream of chicken soup, and 1 can of French onion soup. If you’re worried about sodium levels, feel free to opt for low-sodium options here!
Stir the flavorings well, then add 1½-2 pounds of cubed steak to your cooker.
Cover the cooker and cook on Low for 6-8 hours.
After time is up, combine 3 tablespoons water with 3 tablespoons cornstarch in a separate bowl. Whisk until smooth, then stir into the crock pot mixture until even.
Cover the cooker once more and cook on High for 30 minutes, or until the gravy is thickened to your liking.
Serve with mashed potatoes and be sure to get generous with that gravy!
